Have lemons… make lemonade. We were gifted some lemons so we cut, squeezed, strained and poured. After adding some warm water and sugar we tasted. It was a bit sour at first but some more sugar sorted that out! Great team work Toutouwai.

Two new friends in Toutouwai.

Image
Our new classroom friends. We have some new, yet to be named, friends in our classroom. Two little male guinea pigs. They both have very long fur. One has red eyes and the other brown. Why? We don’t know but we can care for them just the same. Animals teach us compassion and empathy as well as responsibility. These two have been learning to enjoy cuddles and trust that we will be kind and gentle to them as out in the real world other animals like to eat guinea pigs! The NZ science curriculum tells us that children will recognise that all living things have certain requirements so they can stay alive.

A beautiful winter’s day

A beautiful winter’s day Today we went outside to notice the changes in the school environment. We wondered why the leaves on some trees stay green while others turn beautiful colours but then fall off. Some trees are evergreen while others are deciduous. Once we had looked, we played. Everyone had lots of fun throwing the leaves up high and watching them fall to the ground again. The NZ Health and PE curriculum states that children will develop a wide range of movement skills, using a variety of equipment and play environments. While the science curriculum says that children will recognise that there are lots of different living things in the world and that they can be grouped in different ways.

Tabloid Sports. Ranui Day. Term 1 2023 All of the juniors at Waitara East came together to enjoy the tabloid activities that Kevin brought along from Iconz Sports. It was lots of fun to be with our friends and to challenge ourselves to try new things which weren’t always easy. Our senior tuakana were awesome at helping us get through everything.
