Tabloid Sports. Ranui Day. Term 1 2023 All of the juniors at Waitara East came together to enjoy the tabloid activities that Kevin brought along from Iconz Sports. It was lots of fun to be with our friends and to challenge ourselves to try new things which weren’t always easy. Our senior tuakana were awesome at helping us get through everything.

Brooklands Zoo Trip Week 9 Term 1 2023

Brooklands Zoo Trip Week 9 Term 1 2023 We had a lovely outing to Brooklands Zoo and the Bowl of Brooklands with our whole syndicate.  The fun started with a bus trip on a day that looked like it might rain but thankfully held off other than a couple of sun showers. The children all dressed warmly so the cold start to the day wasn’t a problem. We had fun looking at the animals including otters, tortoises, lizards, monkeys and capybaras. Some of us were disappointed that the meerkats were not on display. There were lots of fun things to do on the playground and the spinning things and swings seemed to be very popular.  It was especially nice to meet lots of different parents and siblings who came along to join us.  Running or rolling down the hill was a highlight for many of us.

Kason's River Week 10 term 1 2023

The properties of water  discovered by creating a  river. On Wednesday Kason became interested in the water that was being tipped out of the water tray. He noticed that the water started to run past the sand pit and  towards the edge of the concrete. He wondered what would happen if we added more water… so we did.  The water took a few different paths but always downhill. Kason observed that the water always took the lowest route. We continued to pour more water until it reached the ‘waterfall’ and went over the edge from the concrete to the sand. Here Kason noticed things changed a lot as the water didn’t pool like on the concrete but was absorbed into  the sand. Other children joined him and started to excavate pathways for the water to take. There was great excitement each time a bucket load was added. Kason worked out it was better to pour half way along than at the top so the water didn’t disappear too quickly. Links to the New Zealand Curriculum:  Heal...
