Kason's River Week 10 term 1 2023

The properties of water

 discovered by creating a  river.

On Wednesday Kason became interested in the water that was being tipped out of the water tray.

He noticed that the water started to run past the sand pit and  towards the edge of the concrete. He wondered what would happen if we added more water… so we did.

The water took a few different paths but always downhill. Kason observed that the water always took the lowest route. We continued to pour more water until it reached the ‘waterfall’ and went over the edge from the concrete to the sand.

Here Kason noticed things changed a lot as the water didn’t pool like on the concrete but was absorbed into  the sand.

Other children joined him and started to excavate pathways for the water to take. There was great excitement each time a bucket load was added. Kason worked out it was better to pour half way along than at the top so the water didn’t disappear too quickly.
