Pikelets and horses. Learning how to be us.

Learning how things are done in

 Te Whiria o te Toutouwai

In the beginning weeks of school there is a big focus on establishing the culture of the class… how things are done and what the expectations are. Cooking allows the children to learn that we all get a turn to do things and no one will miss out. It also encourages patience as well working together for a desired outcome… in this case yummy pikelets with strawberry jam.

On Friday we also went on a hikoi to look for the horses who live down the road. We practiced moving safely around the community and crossing roads. Sadly, the horses were not there and although we were disappointed, we ate the carrots we took for them and went back to school. We will go and see them another day.
